Handwoven Scarves, Snoods and Shawls - Unique Mother’s Day Gifts

Handwoven in Wiltshire from natural fibres - each piece is a one of a kind

Handwoven gifts, made to last

Every piece in this collection is woven by hand by Emma Baker on a traditional floor loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire, using natural fibres - merino lambswool and cotton. Emma designs the fabric structure, sets the loom, and weaves, cuts and finishes each item herself. Because the fabric is made from scratch, no two pieces are identical: the colour, texture and drape are all products of the making process. You will not find these designs in any shop.

Why handwoven makes a better gift

A handwoven scarf, snood or shawl is a different object from a mass-produced one. The fabric has a texture and a weight that comes from the loom - from the way the warp and weft threads are interlaced at the point of making. Emma uses natural fibres chosen for their handle and warmth: merino wool lambswool is exceptionally soft against the skin with a lightness and spring that synthetic fibres cannot replicate, and cotton gives a clean drape suitable for year-round wear. Each piece is finished to a standard that makes it a genuinely long-lasting gift.

Gifting

The collection covers a wide price range - from £35 for a cotton snood to over £120 for a large handwoven shawl in hand-spun yarn which means there is an appropriate piece at most gift budgets. Each scarf or snood order arrives in Emma’s branded gift packaging as standard, so no additional wrapping is needed. The collection is curated for Mother’s Day but the products are available year-round but a handwoven scarf or snood makes an equally good birthday, retirement or ‘just because’ gift at any time of year.

Frequently Asked Questions - Handwoven Mother's Day Gifts

What kinds of gifts are on this page?

This page brings together handwoven scarves, snoods and shawls from Emma’s full collection - all of which make suitable Mother’s Day gifts. The range includes merino wool snoods, lambswool scarves, cotton scarves and snoods, triangle scarves and large shawls. Prices run from £35 to over £120. All pieces are made by hand by Emma Baker on a floor loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Are these gifts suitable for someone who already has scarves?

Yes. Because Emma weaves the fabric herself, each piece has a colour combination, texture and structure that does not exist in any shop. A buyer who already owns several scarves is unlikely to own anything like these. The one-of-a-kind nature of each piece is itself part of what makes them worth giving.

What materials are the scarves and snoods made from?

Emma uses natural fibres throughout - primarily merino lambswool and cotton. Merino wool is exceptionally soft and suitable for wearing directly against the skin. Lambswool is light and warm with a natural spring. Cotton is a clean, smooth fibre that gives a lighter drape and is suitable for year-round wear. The fibre type is listed in each product title and description.

Do the gifts come wrapped?

Yes - every scarf or snood order arrives in Emma’s branded gift packaging as standard. No additional wrapping is needed. If you would like to add a gift message, you can do so at checkout.

When does Mother’s Day fall in the UK and when should I order?

In the UK, Mothering Sunday falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent - typically in mid-to-late March. Mother's Day in the USA falls in May.  Emma dispatches orders promptly but if you need a gift by a specific date, check the current dispatch times on the Shipping and Returns page or contact Emma directly. Royal Mail tracked delivery is available at checkout.

Are these suitable as gifts for someone other than a mother?

Entirely. This page is curated for Mother’s Day but the products on it are available year-round and work well as birthday gifts, retirement gifts, thank-you gifts or treats for yourself. The collection is aimed at anyone who appreciates handmade textiles - not exclusively mothers.

How do I care for a handwoven scarf or snood?

Hand wash gently in cool water with a mild wool detergent and dry flat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry, as this may felt or distort the fibres. Full care guidance is on Emma’s Caring for a Handweave page.
