A handwoven merino deflected doublweave snood in purple — made by Emma Baker in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
This listing offers four variants, each woven on a floor loom using an 8-shaft deflected doubleweave structure. Purple is the shared base colour across all four; the secondary colours vary by variant from sky blue and lilac to teal and pale merino silk.
What is deflected doubleweave?
Deflected doubleweave creates two layers of fabric on the loom simultaneously using fine 2/17nm merino lambswool. The weave structure includes longer warp and weft floats; when the finished snood is washed, these floats pull in different directions, creating a raised, soft-edged pattern across the surface.

Variants and dimensions:
A - Purple and sky blue: 21cm × 75cm. The widest variant - a fuller fit around the neck.
B - Purple and lilac with pale merino silk: 15cm × 77cm. The narrowest variant, woven with a merino silk blend for additional lustre and softness.
C - Purple and sky blue: 17cm × 76cm. Same colourway as A, slightly narrower - a more fitted neck wrap.
D - Purple and teal: 16cm × 74cm. The teal secondary colour gives this variant a cooler, more jewel-toned palette.
A gift for someone who appreciates beautiful, skilled making.
At £50, this snood is an accessible luxury - a handmade piece using an advanced weaving technique that very few makers use. It suits anyone who loves quality accessories and appreciates the story behind what they wear. It arrives in a gold-embossed gift box, ready to give.
How to care for a merino snood:
Hand wash gently in hand-hot water with minimal agitation. Rinse once. Press between towels to remove excess water and dry flat, away from direct heat. The deflected surface pattern will develop gently with subsequent washes - this is a natural characteristic of deflected doubleweave. Do not machine wash, wring or tumble dry.
