This handwoven merino wool snood is woven by Emma Baker on a floor loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire, in a checked twill design using fine merino lambswool in burgundy, beige, blue and yellow.
It is a rich, autumnal palette, warm and earthy that works particularly well with neutral winter wardrobes. The twill structure gives the cloth a diagonal rib and a natural drape that improves with wear.
The Two Versions
Two variations are available, both cut from the same handwoven cloth but woven with different weft colours, which changes the overall balance of the palette. Select your preferred option from the Fabric dropdown before adding to your basket.
- Pale blue weft - the blue threads come forward in the cloth, giving this version a cooler, more varied palette where the blue sits alongside the burgundy and beige
- Beige weft - the warm tones dominate, producing a richer, more autumnal colourway where the burgundy and beige are more prominent
Dimensions
Approximately 41cm wide and 72cm in circumference - a comfortable size that sits well around the neck and can be doubled for extra warmth.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is merino wool itchy? No. Fine merino lambswool has a much smaller fibre diameter than standard wool, so the fibres bend against the skin rather than prickling it. Most people who find ordinary wool uncomfortable have no problem with fine merino worn directly around the neck.
What is a twill weave? Twill is a weave structure that creates a diagonal rib across the surface of the fabric. It gives the cloth a natural drape and a subtle texture that catches the light differently from a plain weave, adding depth to the checked pattern.
Is this snood made in the UK? Yes. The snood is designed and handwoven by Emma Baker in her studio in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.
Do you ship internationally? Yes. Emma Baker Handwoven Textiles ships to the UK, Canada, and the USA.

How do I care for a merino wool snood? Handwash gently in warm water with minimal agitation using a wool-safe detergent. Rinse once, press gently in a towel to remove excess water, and dry flat. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
