Just Off the Loom:  New Handwoven Snoods, Scarves and Shawls

Every piece on this page has been woven by hand on my floor loom in Wiltshire, and none of it has been waiting around for long.  These are my newest handwoven snoods, scarves and shawls, soft, luxurious accessories in merino wool, cotton or other natural fibres and woven in a range of different weaving designs.

What is a Snood?

A snood (also called a cowl or infinity scarf) is a continuous loop of fabric you simply pop over your head, no tying or fiddly wrapping.  My handwoven snoods are made from merino lambswool, cotton or other natural fibres, light enough to wear indoors and warm enough for a winter walk.  Not sure how to wear one then ready the blog '6 ways to wear a snood'

Handwoven scarves and shawls

My scarves and snoods are woven with a generous drape and finished by hand.  Cloth woven on a floor loom is hardwearing yet soft against the skin, so these are made to be worn for years, not one season.

Why choose handwoven?

Handwoven fabric is made thread by thread, with every colour and pattern chosen by the weaver.  That is why no two pieces are quite alike.  Each one is designed, woven and finished by me, so you are buying direct from the maker and supporting a small UK craft business.

Handwoven snoods and scarves: your questions answered

What does handwoven mean?

Handwoven means the cloth is woven by hand on a loom rather than made by machine in a mill. Each of my snoods, scarves and shawls is designed and woven by me on a floor loom in Wiltshire, then finished by hand.

What are your snoods and scarves made from?

Mainly merino wool and cotton. These are natural fibres chosen for softness, warmth and durability. The fibre content is listed on every product page.

Are your pieces one of a kind?

Many are. I weave in small quantities, so each design is either unique or limited to a handful of pieces. Once a piece is sold it isn’t remade identically, though I often weave similar designs in new colours.

How do I care for a handwoven merino snood?

Hand wash gently in cool water with a wool detergent, press out the water without wringing, and dry flat away from direct heat. Store folded, not hung.
