Bold in texture, rich in colour and woven with the finest natural fibres, every scarf and shawl in this collection is designed to be something completely unlike anything else. Each piece is handwoven by Emma Baker in her studio in Salisbury, Wiltshire, on a traditional floor loom - a process that can take a full day or more for the most intricate designs. The result is an accessory that tells its own story of craftsmanship, colour and care.

All pieces are made in soft merino lambswool or natural cotton, and no two are ever the same. These are scarves and shawls for people who appreciate beauty, quality and individuality - and who want to give or own something that could never be found on a high street. Every order arrives in Emma's signature gift box with tissue paper, ready to present.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why handwoven scarves cost more - and why that matters

A handwoven scarf takes many more hours to make than a machine-produced one. Before a single thread is woven, the loom must be 'warped' — a painstaking process of threading hundreds of individual yarns through the loom by hand. The weaving itself is done by foot and hand, one row at a time, with the pattern built up gradually across hours of focused work. Each scarf in this collection is then hand-washed, pressed and inspected before it is packed. The total time from selecting the yarn to a finished, boxed scarf can be a full day or more for the most intricate designs. What you receive is not just a scarf — it is a piece of textile art, made slowly, with skill and intention, and designed to last for many years. The same design will never be woven again in exactly the same way.

Are these scarves truly one of a kind?

Yes - absolutely. The same design is never woven twice in exactly the same way. When a piece sells, it is gone. This is part of what makes each scarf a genuine collector's piece rather than a product.

What sizes are the luxury shawls?

Sizes vary by design. Full shawls are typically around 180 cm x 70 cm and can be worn over the shoulders or wrapped around the body. Larger scarves are approximately 160–180 cm long and 25–35 cm wide. Exact dimensions are listed on each individual product page.

Do the luxury scarves and shawls come gift-boxed?

Yes - every piece arrives in Emma's signature embossed gift box with tissue paper, ready to give. There is no additional charge for gift packaging. Orders can also be sent directly to the recipient.

How do I care for a merino wool scarf?

Merino wool scarves should be hand-washed. Full care guidance is on the Care page.

Is a luxury handwoven scarf a good gift for a significant occasion?

It is one of the most considered gifts you can give. A handwoven scarf or shawl from Emma Baker is a genuinely unique, lasting object made with real skill - appropriate for milestone birthdays, anniversaries, retirement gifts, or as a meaningful Christmas present for someone who is hard to buy for.
