A handwoven deflected doubleweave merino snood in purple and white with pops of teal and purple - reversible, made by Emma Baker in Salisbury

This merino snood is woven by Emma Baker on an 8-shaft floor loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire using a deflected doubleweave structure. The colour palette - purple, white, teal and orange - is bold and layered: the purple and white form the dominant ground of the weave, with teal and orange appearing as accent colours woven into the deflection pattern. The orange is the surprise element - an unusual pairing with purple that gives the snood a warmth and vitality that a straight purple and white combination would not have.

What deflected doubleweave produces on this snood

Deflected doubleweave is a complex weave structure built on 8 shafts. The loom builds two fabric layers simultaneously, with the weft threads deflected between the layers in a controlled pattern. The result is a fabric that has a different colour arrangement on each face.  The snood can be worn with either face showing - two distinct looks from one accessory.
