A handwoven navy tartan merino snood

This navy tartan merino snood is woven from a tartan design created by Emma Baker herself - a navy base with muted green, bright red and a pop of white, woven in a twill structure on a floor loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

The twill weave gives the tartan its characteristic diagonal line, adding depth and texture to the colour blocks and giving the finished fabric a quality that reads as heritage textile rather than printed pattern.

Why an original tartan design?

Most tartan accessories use pre-existing clan or commercial tartans. Emma's navy tartan is an original design - the colour combination was chosen to work across a wide range of outfits, with navy as the dominant base, the muted green and red providing warmth and contrast, and the white accent giving the pattern its crispness.

What makes this snood special

  • Woven by hand on a floor loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire - by Emma Baker, member of the Artful Collective and Wessex Guild of Craftsmen

  • Original tartan design by Emma - navy, muted green, bright red and white
  • Twill weave structure - the classic diagonal-line pattern that gives tartan its characteristic texture
  • Snood format - sewn into a loop, no fastening, slips easily over the head and stays in place
  • Unisex - the navy-based design works equally well for men and women
  • One of a kind - each snood is handwoven and hand-finished; no two are identical
  • Presented in a gold-embossed Emma Baker gift box, ready to give

Merino lambswool - why it matters

Merino lambswool is finer, softer and lighter than standard sheep's wool. It is naturally temperature-regulating - warm enough for winter, comfortable in autumn and spring and does not carry the scratchiness associated with coarser wools. When woven rather than knitted, merino creates a fabric with a flat, structured drape that holds the tartan pattern clearly rather than distorting it.

Dimensions

39cm wide × 70cm circumference (on the round).
