Why an open-structure deflected doubleweave scarf is warm
The deflected doubleweave structure creates two layers of fabric with air pockets between them. Those air pockets trap warm air close to the body - the same principle as double-glazing, where the insulation comes from the trapped air rather than from the material itself. This is why a lightweight, open-structure deflected doubleweave scarf can be significantly warmer than a heavier plain-weave scarf of the same fibre: the warmth is structural.
