Two handwoven doubleweave merino snoods - earthy burgundy or jewel emerald green, made by Emma Baker in Salisbury
 
These snoods are woven by Emma Baker on a Louet floor loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire using a doubleweave window pane structure in fine merino lambswool. Both are made with the same technique and finish; the choice is between two distinct colour palettes. Choose the earthy warmth of burgundy, maroon, beige and brown or the bold jewel tones of emerald green, yellow, teal and dark grey.
 
How the window pane pattern is created
Doubleweave on a floor loom builds two layers of fabric simultaneously. In the window pane variant, selected warp threads from the bottom layer are interchanged with the top layer at specific intervals. Where the layers exchange, the colours appear on the opposite face of the cloth. The result is a fabric with clearly defined rectangular colour blocks - the ‘window panes’. Each pane is a zone where the two layers’ colours have swapped. Because the snood is sewn as a twisted loop, the doubleweave structure wraps around the neck showing both faces at once: the window pane effect is visible from every angle.

Earthy Burgundy & Brown  Burgundy, maroon, beige and brown merino lambswool. Warm, autumnal and rich - the kind of palette that works naturally with navy, charcoal, camel and rust. Jewel Emerald Green  Emerald green, yellow, teal and dark grey merino lambswool. Bold, contemporary and vivid — the palette sits in the cool jewel-tone end of the spectrum and works with black, grey, white and deep navy. The window pane blocks shift between the greens and yellows with dark grey as the anchor tone. The knitted join panel is matching green. Dimensions: 19cm × 74cm.
