A handwoven Overshot cotton wall hanging in natural and navy blue - hemstitch and fringe finish, made by Emma Baker in Salisbury
This wall hanging is woven by Emma Baker on a floor loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire using an Overshot structure in 100% organic (GOTS certified) cotton yarn. The Overshot design creates a strong geometric block pattern in navy blue against the natural cotton ground - the supplementary weft threads float over the warp in a repeating arrangement, building clearly defined colour blocks that read well from a distance and suit display on a wall.
Hemstitch and fringe finishing
Below the woven body, the wall hanging is finished with a delicate hemstitch - a drawn thread technique where warp threads are grouped into decorative bundles, creating a fine openwork border above the fringe. Below the hemstitch, an 18cm fringe falls freely, providing movement and a traditional handwoven character. This finishing combination - woven body, hemstitch border, loose fringe is the classic wall hanging format in the
Western handweaving tradition.
Mounting - use your own rod
The wall hanging has a woven loop at the top through which you insert your own dowel, piece of driftwood, copper tube, or similar rod. The rod is not included - this allows you to choose a hanging method that suits your wall and style. A 35cm rod or rod-equivalent is needed.
