This merino scarf is woven by Emma Baker on an 8-shaft floor loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire using a deflected doubleweave mosaic structure. The mosaic pattern creates a tile-like arrangement of geometric shapes across the surface of the fabric - each tile is a distinct colour block, and the mosaic shifts and varies as the deflection pattern moves through the warp. The result is a scarf with a bold, graphic quality that is unlike the flowing, organic character of standard deflected doubleweave.
 
What is deflected doubleweave mosaic?
Deflected doubleweave mosaic is a specific variant of the deflected doubleweave technique woven on an 8-shaft floor loom. Where standard deflected doubleweave creates flowing curves and organic shapes, the mosaic variant structures the deflection to produce repeating geometric tiles across both faces of the fabric. The two faces of the cloth have different colour arrangements - the scarf can be worn with either side on the outside, giving two distinct looks from a single piece.
 
Two colour variants
Mid Pink: Woven in pink, white and pale beige. The mosaic pattern reads as a soft, warm combination of pinks and whites. Length: 25cm × 206cm.
