A handwoven beige, grey and yellow tabby wool scarf in two variants - made by Emma Baker in Salisbury on an Ashford rigid heddle loom
This scarf is woven by Emma Baker on her Ashford rigid heddle loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire using a tabby weave structure. A tabby weave alternates each weft thread over and under the warp in a simple, balanced sequence - the most fundamental weave structure, producing a stable, even fabric. The colour character comes from the specific yarns: the beige is a Rowan wool with distinctive dark black flecks, and the yellow and dark grey tones complete the three-colour palette.
Two variants — choose the one that suits you
Variant A - 168cm, 12cm fringe Grey tones in this variant tend toward very dark grey/black rather than mid-grey, making the contrast between the dark and light yarns more pronounced. 27cm wide, 168cm long, with a 12cm twisted fringe at each end.
Variant B - 163cm, 16cm fringe, handspun merino silk This variant includes handspun yellow and white merino silk yarn - Emma spun this yarn herself before weaving it in. The merino silk adds a natural lustre and a slightly cooler, smoother surface character to the yellow sections. The grey in this variant is a softer mid-grey rather than near-black. 27cm wide, 163cm long, with a 16cm twisted fringe at each end - the longer fringe gives additional movement.
