This handwoven merino wool triangle scarf is woven by Emma Baker on a floor loom in Salisbury, Wiltshire, in a basket weave pattern using dark grey, light grey, white and pastel pink fine lambswool.

The basket weave structure creates a balanced, grid-like surface texture distinct from the diagonal rib of a twill weave with coloured squares sitting cleanly against each other to produce a soft, geometric design.

Grey and pink is one of the most versatile colourways in the triangle scarf range. The grey tones make it easy to wear with almost anything; the pastel pink lifts the palette and prevents it from feeling flat. It works particularly well layered over grey, white, navy or black knitwear, and pairs beautifully with a grey or blush coat for a pulled-together, tonal look.

What Is a Basket Weave?

Basket weave is a weave structure in which pairs of warp and weft threads interlace in a simple over-under pattern, mimicking the appearance of woven basketry. The result is a balanced, slightly textured surface with a clean, geometric quality. It differs from twill which produces a diagonal rib in that the surface is more even and less directional.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you wear a triangle scarf?

The most common way is to fold the triangle in half along its longest edge to form a strip, wrap it around the neck, and knot or tuck the ends. You can also wear it as a true triangle by draping the point down the front and knotting the two ends at the back of the neck for a neckerchief look. It can also be tied at the side of the neck, worn over a collar, or looped through a bag handle. Its compact size makes it easy to carry and quick to put on.

What colours does grey and pink go with?

Grey and pastel pink is a very wearable combination that sits well with most neutral wardrobes. It pairs particularly well with grey, white, navy, black and blush knitwear and outerwear. The pink is soft enough that it does not clash with bolder colours, making this one of the more versatile colourways in the range.

Is merino wool itchy?

No. Fine merino lambswool has a much smaller fibre diameter than standard wool, so the fibres bend against the skin rather than prickling it. Most people who find ordinary wool uncomfortable have no problem wearing fine merino directly against the neck.

How do I care for a merino wool triangle scarf?

Sponge wash small stains. For a full wash, handwash very gently in warm water with minimal agitation using a wool-safe detergent. Rinse once, press in a towel to remove excess water, and dry naturally before pressing lightly. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
